A Journey of Transformation
Many people face challenges that go unnoticed when it comes to incarceration. Statistics indicate that over 2.3 million individuals are currently behind bars in the United States. This alarming number highlights that incarceration is not solely a legal issue but a significant societal concern intertwined with poverty, lack of education, and the environments individuals grow up in. My journey has been one of struggle, perseverance, and ultimately, transformation.
From the Streets to Business: How It All Began
I started my career in accounting, tax preparation, and business with the intention of helping my friends and family. My path was far from conventional—self-taught, determined, and driven by the need to break free from a difficult past. In 2013, I filed my first tax return. By 2014, I had launched my business. In 2015, I became an Electronic Return Originator by the IRS. Since then, I have continuously evolved, learning and growing with each passing year.
Why Tax Services?
I wanted to do something that had longevity and was essential. Taxes are a constant in life, and I recognized an opportunity to create a service that would not only sustain me but also allow me to help others. Math has always been my strength, and I have a natural ability to analyze situations logically and efficiently.
Bridging the Gap: A Bigger Mission
Beyond tax preparation, my goal is to educate and empower others. The next generation is often influenced by superficial success, but true fulfillment comes from creating something with purpose. Material possessions don’t define us—our actions do. I want to build a legacy that brings real change, especially for those who come from backgrounds like mine.
Overcoming the Challenges of a Troubled Past
One of my proudest milestones is overcoming the obstacles placed before me due to my past. At 14, I made a decision that led to a felony conviction as an adult. This meant fighting not only public perception but also the limitations society placed on me. I had to work twice as hard, study twice as long, and dedicate myself to my craft to earn my place in the professional world.
For those who judge my past, I say this: don’t just look at one chapter of my story—read the entire book. My journey is proof that people can change, grow, and rise above their circumstances.
The Reality of Incarceration and Poverty
Poverty is a leading factor in incarceration. Children raised in economic hardship are often trapped in cycles of crime due to a lack of education, employment opportunities, and mentorship. Studies show that children raised in poverty are twice as likely to engage in criminal activities. I’ve seen this firsthand—growing up in a household where my father worked two jobs, I was scared to ask for help, so I found ways to hustle on my own.
Many never make it out. The neighborhoods we grow up in shape our perspectives, and without guidance, we often follow the only path we see. Peer pressure and limited opportunities push many into a life of crime, leading to arrests and imprisonment.
Breaking Free: The Power of Education and Mentorship
Despite these odds, a small percentage of people escape this cycle. Education, mentorship, and strong support systems are the key factors that help individuals rise above their circumstances. I was always book-smart but lacked the guidance to avoid the streets. Today, I want to use my knowledge and experience to help others find their way.
Investing in community programs isn’t just about preventing crime—it’s about creating opportunities. Programs that provide job training, financial literacy, and life skills can empower people to build better futures. Without these resources, many are left with no options, repeating the mistakes of the past.
Future Goals: Giving Back and Expanding Services
Looking ahead, I am working on writing my story, sharing my journey in a way that inspires others. I’ve also expanded my business into tax planning and advisory services, allowing me to make a deeper impact on my clients’ financial lives. Beyond tax preparation, I want to help people understand how to manage their money, reduce their tax burdens, and build financial stability.
Redefining Success
Success, to me, isn’t just about making money—it’s about creating something meaningful. My biggest motivation is my son. I want to leave behind a legacy that inspires future generations to believe in themselves, no matter their circumstances. My faith in God has played a huge role in my journey. Without Him, I wouldn’t have had the courage to make these changes.
A Final Thought: Breaking Free from Mental Incarceration
Incarceration isn’t just physical—it’s mental. Many people serve life sentences in their minds due to circumstances, never realizing their full potential. My goal is to help others break free mentally, showing them that they can achieve greatness despite their past.
We all have the power to rewrite our stories. If we focus on education, mentorship, and self-belief, we can change not only our own lives but also the lives of those around us. It’s time to break the cycle and build a future worth striving for.
